On Wednesday night, the 17th installment of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series, or FTOPS for short, kicked off on the virtual felts of Full Tilt Poker. One event was held on the quarterly tournament series’ opening day, a $216 No Limit Hold’em contest. A field of 4,591 players turned out, about 1,000 more than participated in the kickoff tournament of FTOPS XVI, and 540 finished in the money.
RPM Poker pro Brent “Broberts85” Roberts, who goes by the moniker “Astrolux85” on PokerStars, took down the kickoff FTOPS XVII tournament and banked $164,000. Heads-up, Roberts bested “Doorbread,” who collected a not-so-shabby sum of $113,000. Roberts has recorded victories in the industry’s largest online tournament series and has two FTOPS titles, one PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) victory, and one PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) win.
A total of 540 players finished in the money. Besides Roberts and “Doorbread,” others who cashed out at the final table included “sammy_grinder” (third for $81,536), “safadave1” (fourth for $60,601), “o_Omx” (fifth for $44,992), “2PAIRDUECESUP” (sixth for $31,219), “LarryDavid23” (seventh for $21,119), “bigdrug77” (eighth for $14,691), and “foldgish” (ninth for $10,100).
