Mac News and Rumors for January 10th

The new year has begun and we’re already hearing all sorts of rumors, mainly generated from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Of course, the two hottest topics right now are the iPad 2 and the release of the iPhone on Verizon.

iPad 2 Cases Pop Up at CES

Whoops. Cases designed for a next-generation iPad have been popping up left and right at CES. Experts have been examining the cases in detail to get an idea of what the next iPad might look and feel like. Rumors state that the next iPad will be thinner and have tapered edges like the iPod Touch. Of course, there are also rumors about the 5 MP camera inside of the new iPad. Some case manufacturers have pulled their cases since their existence was known, possibly at the behest of Apple.

New Intel Processor Information Leaked

Now that you’ve finally upgraded to that gorgeous new laptop or desktop with an i5 or i7 processor, word comes from Intel that there’s a next-generation processor codenamed “Sandy Bridge” that has a big performance improvement over the current generation of processors. This isn’t much of a rumor since it came straight from Intel itself, although many have speculated how long it will take for Apple to announce it is adopting the new processors for the MacBook Pro and iMac lines.

iPhone 4G LTE on Verizon in 2012?

The rumors about an iPhone 3G model coming to Verizon are hot right now. But what about an iPhone that uses 4G LTE technology? There are several reports that it won’t come in 2011, but it’s slated to happen in 2012.  The Boy Genius Report said that 2012 would be the year we’ll see some sort of iPhone on Verizon that supports 4G technology.

Mac App Store Launches

Apple has formally launched a new Mac App Store to bring an integrated application purchasing system to the OS X platform. Several high-profile iOS developers are bringing Mac versions of their apps to the store, so we’re hoping we can play Angry Birds on our iMacs soon.

iPhone 5 Allegedly Leaked

We know that a new iPhone will be announced and released later this year. Boy Genius Report is pointing to a video that was posted on YouTube and subsequently pulled.  If you go to the video, it now states, “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Apple, Inc.,” which only fuels the rumor fire even more. The video highlighted a number of similarities and differences from the iPhone 4. It appears that the antennas have been placed differently, which moved a few pieces around, specifically the mute switch.

Apple Set to Launch Verizon iPhone on January 11th?

We now have a date. Apparently, Apple will have some sort of product launch party and announcement on 1/11/11 to let people know that the iPhone 4 will be available on the Verizon network. There has been no official word from Apple or Verizon. We do know that Apple Store employees have stated that vacation requests have been limited for the next two months.

Full Tilt Poker May Roll Out New Tiered Black Card

Rumors are flying that Full Tilt Poker will be unveiling a new tiered Black Card status system that will reward high-volume players. The 500-point per day average will still qualify for Black Card status. However, two new tiers are rumored to be making their debut in the next Full Tilt Poker software update on January 10th. There will be a new level at 1,000 Full Tilt Points per day, which will take the Black Card multiplier to 3x, and another tier at 2,000 points, which takes the multiplier to 4x. There has been no comment from Full Tilt.
