Mac News and Rumors for January 22nd

This week, we have news about the iPad 2 and a look at what might be coming inside iOS 4.3, which was seeded to developers. We also have some fun poker news, so read on!

Leaked Features for iPad 2

Due to Apple’s developer release of iOS 4.3 Beta 2, we were able to confirm, thanks to MacRumors.com, that there will be a slate of new features for the iPad. These features, which are seen with application icons inside the home screen, include FaceTime, Camera, and PhotoBooth. It’s pretty safe to say that all of the rumors about the new iPad having a camera are accurate since having these applications would be pointless without an integrated camera in the device.

FaceTime would allow iPad 2 users to video conference with iPhone, or iPod, or Mac users. The standard Camera app would be like the one for iPhone and take pictures, while PhotoBooth offers even more fun with pics. Apple is expected to announce the iPad 2 very shortly, with its release coming in the first quarter.

Apple Looking at Multi-Touch Mouse?

A report from Patently Apple showed a newly published patent application about an input device for the Mac. Basically, it looks like a new form of the Magic Mouse and somehow embeds the numeric keys inside the “grip” area as a virtual number keypad. Another patent application revolves around the use of a virtual keyboard to allow a device to provide feedback when keys are activated. This could let new virtual keyboards have layouts that would be easy to customize.

iPad 2 to Have Two Cameras?

We all can agree that a front-facing five-megapixel camera for the new iPad is a sure thing. What about a rear-facing one-megapixel camera? 9 to 5 Mac is reporting that it might have discovered evidence from the latest iOS SDK that the next-generation iPad will have front- and rear-facing cameras.
