Mac News and Rumors for January 3rd

There are plenty of rumors for the New Year, as reports of a new iPhone and tons of poker updates are heading our way.  We’d like to thank all our loyal readers for continuing to support our site as we report the latest news for Mac poker players.

Upcoming 8 GB iPhone 3 GS?

There are several pieces of evidence suggesting that a new 8 GB model of the iPhone 3 GS is coming soon.  In early November, there was a report that AT&T was looking to do something around Christmas time, but nothing materialized.  A new report from a German forum says that an 8 GB model is on its way.  The advantage would be a smaller and cheaper version of the 3 GS available to customers.

Nexus One Coming Soon

The much talked about “Google Phone,” which features the Android operating system and several new features, looks like it’s coming very soon.  Google announced that an Android-related press conference is set for January 5th, with all rumors pointing to a launch of the Nexus One.  There’s a source that provided tech site “Gizmodo” pricing at $179 (if purchased with a plan) or $529 with no plan.  Although many are saying it’s no iPhone killer, the reviews from those who have seen it have been very favorable.

European Laws Restrict Poker

Those living in Italy already know the pain of having to deal with their country’s strict guidelines about poker.  They are not allowed to play cash game poker and sit and gos can only go up to the €400 buy-in level.  Belgium is another country apparently against online gaming and is finalizing law that would make online poker strictly illegal unless poker rooms operate from within the country.  Although there are now several legal loopholes (like Full Tilt Poker opening a Belgian office) that might prolong the process, but Belgians are now officially warned.  Similar laws are also rumored to be close to being put into place in France as well.

PokerStars Million Dollar Head Hunt

PokerStars players can celebrate the grand final of the “PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge” with an exclusive Head Hunt tournament.  The event begins on January 4th at 19:00 ET and all the stars of the show, including Daniel Negreanu.  Every guest player will have a cash bounty on his or her head and all players will be vying for their share of the $100,000 prize pool.  The tournament has a $10+$1 buy-in and satellites for just $1.10 are running twice daily until January 3rd.  PokerStars sponsored players participating include Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Chris Moneymaker, Barry Greenstein, Joe Cada, and celebrities like John Salley, Tito Ortiz, Jayde Nicole, and more.

PartyPoker Cash Machine Launches
