Mac News and Rumors for October 17th

 

This week’s News and Rumors has some serious teeth, as we unveil the first rumblings about Mac OS X 10.7, which might be known as Lion. We’ll also talk about iOS Betas floating around. Finally, we’ll wrap up with news of some killer promotions going on at Full Tilt Poker and UB.com.

Special Media Event on October 20th for New OS?

The rumor mill is officially on fire. Apple has issued invitations for a media event on October 20th at 10:00am Pacific Time. The tagline for the event is “Back to the Mac” and has an Apple logo with the faint look of a Lion inside of it. This hints that Mac OS X 10.7 will be debuted and dubbed “Lion”. On top of that, Apple’s notebook line is due for a refresh and historically Apple has done so in November. All in all, we’re looking at a new operating system and a refreshed MacBook at this media event.

iPhone Exclusivity in Germany Ends

The iPhone will appear for Vodafone and O2 customers in Germany, as announced days ago in Europe. The iPhone 4 will be the first offering to the country outside of T-Mobile and, for the time being, there is no pre-sale for customers.

Apple Seeds iOS 4.2 Beta to Developers

MacRumors.com is reporting that Apple has seeded the third edition of the Beta for iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users. The last beta was released two weeks ago and changes included new SMS tones.

Sam’s Club to Get iPhones and iPads?

During Wal-Mart’s annual meeting, executives may have tipped their cap that Sam’s Club stores will be getting in iPhones and iPads, according to one website. There was no timeframe as to when the approximate 600 stores in the United States would be receiving units. This news comes after Wal-Mart and its competitor Target announced sales of iPad units.

Anti-Sexting Patent for Apple

Somehow, someway, Apple is going to make it possible to stop “sexting”. The company was awarded a patent addressing parental controls for text communications, which has receiving a ton of attention from the press. An entire message flagged as “sexting” could be blocked.

Full Tilt Poker Rolls Out Take 2 Promotion

The popular “Take 2” promotion will return to Full Tilt between Friday, October 15th and Sunday, October 24th.  Players need to play on at least two standard ring-game tables simultaneously or one Rush Poker table during the promotion in order to receive double the Full Tilt Points. On top of that, there’s a $5 cash bonus available if you earn at least five Take 2 bonus points on any five days. If you do so on nine of the ten days, you’ll get an additional $20 for a prize total of $25. Remember, you must opt into Take 2 via the “My Promotions” button inside the Full Tilt Poker Cashier.

FTOPS XVIII Coming November 10th

For you tournament nuts, Full Tilt Poker has announced that FTOPS XVIII will start on November 10th and conclude on November 21st. There will be $25 million guaranteed between FTOPS and MiniFTOPS events. The latter series will take place from December 8th to 19th.
