Everyone’s favorite donkey-flooded website, PartyPoker, has announced a new promotion directly aimed at competing with the big poker rooms that hold major online tournaments. The Monthly Million tournament guarantees a $1 million prize pool on the first Sunday of every month. Qualifiers for the tournament start at micro-stakes $1 satellites.
For Mac users, the good news is that PartyPoker recently released a very slick edition of its software that works via a web browser. A player on a Mac can load up their account in PartyPoker’s web-based software and get in on the action at the fourth most frequented poker room on the internet.
In order to get as many people as possible into the tournament, there are 13 different ways to qualify. The straight buy-in is $600+40 for those that want to get in and not worry about grinding satellite tournaments. The first way to get in is through a Monthly Million Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy that costs a mere $1 and qualifies players into a Monthly Million Qualifier worth $64+6, where 18 seats per day are guaranteed. Alternatively, players can buy into a $8 Sub Qualifier Speed tournament (not a rebuy) and gain entry into the same $64+6 tournament that runs three times per day.
Another way to get in is through a $2 Daily Speed Rebuy or a $6 Daily that gets a player into a MEGA Friday Satellite, which is a $50+5 contest that runs at 17:00 ET and guarantees at least 30 seats into the Monthly Million.
Other options include a $1 Super Satellite Saturday Qualified Speed Rebuy or the $4 Super Satellite Saturday Qualified Speed tournament. The $4 edition runs three times on Saturdays. People who survive these tournaments enter into a $32+3 Super Satellite Saturday where 25 seats are guaranteed.
For the ballers out there with a fat bankroll who want to satellite in, but not wade through the wanna-be fish at the micro-stakes, there is a $44 Daily Sub Qualifier Extra Speed tournament that buys players into a $160+$12 Million Qualifier Extra. That tournament runs daily at 14:35 ET and one in four players gain entry into the Monthly Million tournament; three seats are always guaranteed.
Finally, there are Daily Country-Specific Freerolls where the top 10 players in each country qualify for a Monthly Million Special tournament on Fridays at 15:30 ET. Daily Player Points Qualifiers costing 10 PartyPoints and 25 PartyPoints also get players into that 20 seat freeroll.
In a press release on the new tournament, the site explains, “With $1,000,000 up for grabs in the Monthly Million, the first Sunday of every month is definitely not a day of rest at PartyPoker.com.” This marks a huge upgrade from the previous marquee event at the site, the $300,000 Guaranteed, which will continue to take place every Sunday at 17:45 GMT.
With PartyPokers regular big tournament regularly seeing an overlay (meaning the site has to put in its own money to meet the guaranteed prize pool), offering a bigger monthly event seems counter-productive to company profitability. However, with a new Millions promotion, the site is trying to make itself a big player in the world of online tournament poker, while still excluding the United States market.
