PokerStars Announces World Record Poker Tournament

The largest online poker site, PokerStars, is ending 2009 with a bang.  The first promotion that all new players should take advantage of at the site is the lucrative $600 first-time deposit bonus.  Back in 2008, this bonus was only $50 and there’s no guarantee that it will be extended into 2010, so it’s best to take advantage of it now before you miss out.  All players get 90 days after their first deposit to continue the bonus offer.

Another exciting event occurring on PokerStars is the Guinness World Record poker tournament.  PokerStars is aiming to beat its own world record of 65,000 players set in July.  The buy-in is just a measly $1, so players of all bankrolls will be able to participate in the event and have their screen name be part of poker history.  The best part about this world record attempt is that the prize pool is guaranteed to be $300,000.  Players can buy-in directly or even play in one of the ongoing satellites for just pennies or Frequent Player Points (FPPs).  To find the tournament, go to the PokerStars lobby and select “Tourney” and then “Special.”

The PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge Head Hunt will also play out in the coming days.  Players can join in the fun in celebrating the grand finale of the “PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge” television show with the exclusive “Head Hunt” tournament.  On January 4th at 19:00 ET, players can play in an exclusive tournament featuring the stars of the show, including Daniel Negreanu.  Every guest player has a bounty on their head, meaning if you bust them out, you’ll receive a cash reward.  The prize pool of this tournament is guaranteed to be $100,000, with direct buy-ins set at just $10+$1.  There are $1.10 satellites and freeroll entry tournaments running daily until January 3rd, so be sure to try to get in while you have the time.

Bounties include $1,000 for Negreanu, $750 for Vanessa Rousso, Chris Moneymaker, Barry Greenstein, and Joe Cada, and $500 for any other member of Team PokerStars Pro.  Other celebrities such as John Salley, Tito Ortiz, and Jayde Nicole will also be participating with a $250 bounty on their heads.  The tournament is only open to players within the United States and Canada.

For those of you who like to travel, PokerStars is offering exclusive passports this December.  If you place big on the December Monthly Tournament Leaderboard, you could win one of six passports being given away on top of the huge added cash prize pool.  This promotion is free to enter and all players have to do is enter regular tournaments between December 1st and 31st.  All players who finish in the top 2,000 on the leaderboard will have a chance to win.  Players who finish in the top 200 will win a seat in the Main Event and there are three consolation tournaments.

Finally, the online poker site is holding Team Pro Tuesdays.  Players like Cada, Moneymaker, and Peter Eastgate will be participating and playing at the tables.  With a huge group of the pros out and about in the tournaments at cash game tables, it’ll be the perfect time to mingle with your poker heroes.  In addition, there are two Outlast the Pro tournaments.  Each tournament has a buy-in of just $11, with $1,000 added to the prize pool.  Team PokerStars Pros will be online every Tuesday between 12:00 and 15:00 ET and 19:00 and 22:00 ET.  To find out which pros are online at any given time, click the “Team Pro” button at the top of the main lobby window.  Another way to accomplish this task would be to click on “Requests” in the top menu bar and then selecting “Find a Team PokerStars Player.”
