Weekly News and Rumor for September 4th

This week, we see serious signs that new iPods are about to be announced from Apple, each armed with digital cameras.  That news will likely come at Apple’s September 9th event, which is the same day that the Mini Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) XIII starts.  There is also the kickoff of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) on PokerStars in addition to the recent news release that UltimateBet is releasing a Mac version of its software.

Apple Resellers Have Dwindling iPod Stock

Fueling rumors that new iPods are on their way to retailers just in time for the upcoming holiday shopping season, Ars Technica is reporting that resellers are out of stock on iPod models.  The report points to low stock counts of most iPod models and that no new shipments of existing models are being made.  On top of that, SKUs for existing models are now classified as discontinued.  Apple is holding a music-focused event on September 9th, where it is highly expected that a new line of iPods will be revealed.  These iPods are expected to boast a built-in digital camera.

PokerStars 2009 WCOOP Gets Underway

The 2009 WCOOP officially got underway on Thursday, September 3rd on PokerStars.  The event runs through September 20th, with the WCOOP culminating in a $5,200 No Limit Hold’em Main Event, which will be played over two days.  The Main Event will feature a prize pool guarantee of a whopping $10 million.  Satellites are running around the clock for every event.

Take 2 on Full Tilt Poker

From September 1st through September 30th, Full Tilt Poker is running its new Take 2 promotion for cash game tables.  All you have to do is opt-in from the promotion section of your account to participate.  Once that’s happened, simply play two cash game tables simultaneously and you’ll get double Full Tilt Points (FTPs) on each one.  On top of that, there is a cash reward offered for each “level” completed.  To qualify for a level, you just need to earn one FTP across two tables every day for a certain number of days.  Level 1 requires five days of play and you get $5, Level 2 is 10 days for $15, Level 3 is 15 days for $25, and Level 4 requires 25 days and the bonus is $50.

MiniFTOPS XIII Stars on September 9th

The MiniFTOPS starts on September 9th and features the same events as the recently concluded FTOPS XIII, only at one-tenth of the buy-in.  The MiniFTOPS Main Event will be a $55 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with $500,000 in guaranteed money.  Full Tilt Poker has satellites for as little as $0.50 or 50 FTPs.

UltimateBet Releases Mac Client

UltimateBet, like its sister site Absolute Poker, released a new Mac version of its poker client.  UB Mac is designed specifically to answer the needs and wants of online gamers and to deliver the ultimate online poker version for the Apple computers.  It was rolled out on September 1st.

“Our company strives to make our poker room accessible to as many people as possible, and we recognize that Apple computers have a growing market share in the personal computing industry.  In response to this trend, we have developed an all new download poker application specifically for the Mac Operating System,” said Tokwiro Chief Operating Officer Paul Leggett.
