Weekly News and Rumor Round-Up for August 13th

This time around, we have updates to Mac OS X security and rumors about the tablet computer, iTunes 9, and potential Blu-Ray content for the Mac.  On top of that, we have several attractive promotions going on at Mac-friendly online poker rooms.

OS X Update and Snow Leopard News

Apple released Security Update 2009-004 for Leopard, which addresses vulnerabilities in the BIND suite of Unix utilities that work with the DNS.

There’s another rumor that the Golden Master of Mac OS X 10.6, otherwise known as Snow Leopard, has been seeded to developers.  Snow Leopard will be available for $29.99 and, for people who bought a Mac since June 8th, it’ll be just $9.99.

Other Mac-Related Rumors

There are more rumors about a tablet computer coming with an OLED screen, but Apple continues to refuse comment.  What is now being referred to as an “iPad” is widely regarded as being a slam-dunk, with an announcement expected in the next few months.

BusinessWeek wrote an article about iTunes 9 and rumors are that it will feature a ton of social networking integration.  Imagine an iTunes that can be used to share features with Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr.  Apparently, all of this and Blu-Ray content are coming according to the rumor mill.

PokerStars Promotions

If you haven’t already heard, PokerStars has increased its first-time deposit bonus from $50 to $600.  This coincides with PokerStars running promotions for its World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Extreme Satellites and the Americas Cup of Poker.  Both offer the opportunity to take a small buy-in and turn it into a huge payday.

FTOPS XIII Rages on at Full Tilt Poker

If you haven’t gotten in on the action at Full Tilt Poker, FTOPS XIII is going strong with massive fields and huge payouts.  The tournaments conclude on August 16th on the Mac-friendly online poker room.  The popular MiniFTOPS XIII, which offers the same tournaments at 10% of the buy-in, kicks off on September 9th and runs through September 20th.

PartyPoker Instant Card Rush Promotion

PartyPoker, which offers a Mac-compatible web play option, has a new Card Rush promotion.  The event runs until August 31st.  For every 20 Party Points a player earns at real money poker tables, they’ll receive a Card Rush card.  Each card has a one-in-three chance of winning a prize, including freeroll entries, bonus Party Points, and $50,000 in cash.  Players get their first Card Rush card after only accumulating 10 Points and can reveal their cards in their PartyPoker Account.
