Weekly News and Rumor Roundup for July 16th

All is quiet on the Apple front, although we keep hearing that there might be a new tablet computer released in time for the holiday shopping season.  Other reports state that the tablet is coming in 2010, but the rumors persist that it is on its way.  In the meantime, there is some interesting news about Apple’s reaction to the new Microsoft “laptop hunter” ads as well as exciting news about the upcoming Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) and PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) festivities.

Apple Doesn’t Want Microsoft to Stoop to their Level

For years, we’ve seen the hilarious “I’m a PC and I’m a Mac” commercials that have compared the two between a nerdy Bill Gates-type and a young hip Mac user as they quip about the differences between Windows and Mac computers.  Now that Microsoft has fought back with a series of popular ads about people looking for laptops they can afford, Apple has unleashed the hounds on Microsoft demanding they stop running the ads.  Microsoft’s Chief Operating Officer reportedly did cartwheels down the hallways laughing at Apple’s request.

Continuing the Attack

According to ZDNet reports, Microsoft is going to be opening up “PC Stores” to showcase its products to coincide with the highly touted release of Windows 7.  Naturally, the stores will be located as close as possible to Apple Stores in various malls across the United States.  The company has remained eerily silent about the possibility since many Tweeted the news after Kevin Turner (Microsoft’s COO) discussed the plans.

FTOPS XIII Coming Soon

MiniFTOPS events will play out in September.
