Weekly News and Rumors for September 25th

With the Mini Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) finished at Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars concluding its World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), there’s not much in the way of promotional news at the world’s online poker sites.  On top of that, the news from Apple is pretty thin these days as we await the next big announcement, which should come sometime in the middle of next month.  For now, we have some news and notes from around the industry.

Microsoft’s “Pink” Phone Surfaces

We all knew it was a matter of time before Microsoft launched its own smartphone to compete with the Apple iPhone.  Gizmondo published photos developed under the “Pink” project known as the “Turtle” and “Pure” and the rumor is that Sharp is manufacturing the phones.  The “Pink” phones will be primarily aimed at the same market as those who own the Sidekick and not necessarily go head-to-head against iPhone users.

AT&T Finally Launching MMS for iPhone on Friday

iPhone users will finally be able to text message pictures and video through their AT&T service in the United States.  On its Facebook page, AT&T announced that it is launching MMS service the morning of Friday, September 25th.  The update will be available for download on iTunes.

Baltic Festival Promotion at PokerStars

With the WCOOP finished, PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site and one that features a full Mac download, has announced that Baltic Festival freerolls are running every day at 13:00 ET and 15:30 ET until October 20th.  Players can play for free and qualify for this live tournament in Tallinn, Estonia.  Each package includes a buy-in to the €1,100 tournament, five nights of accommodation at the Swissotel Tallinn, and $500 in spending money.

RedKings EPT Promotions

RedKings is offering qualifiers as low as $2.20 to get into live event finals for a variety of European Poker Tour (EPT) events.  There are three $2.20 qualifiers daily, two $5.50 satellites, one $11 satellite, three $22 satellites, and two $33 qualifiers running on RedKings for the $300+20 Live Event Finals.  From there, players win their way into one of these exclusive events including the EPT London, EPT Barcelona, and EPT Warsaw.
